Blatherskite

Whenever I read the column written by George Will in the Washington Post, I have to open another tab in my browser for an online dictionary. Then I have to ask myself two questions. First, how does he come up with these words? Second, will I be able to use one of these words in a conversation at any time? Well, the other day George used the word blatherskite and I had to look it up. When I read the definition, I can only think of one person-Barack Obama.

Since becoming a candidate for reelection, President Obama has been holding more town hall style meetings in which ordinary citizens may ask pre-screened questions and the president will answer them without a Teleprompter. It may be what he does best, but it's not good.

When posed a question from the audience, President Obama just blathers on and on without a point. Without his Teleprompter, the president stammers and stutters to the point where it's painful to listen to them trying to put together a thought. Three or four years ago, when he was first a candidate for the presidency, his speeches and rhetoric were all about hope and change. Now they're all about fear.

Fear about not spending enough money to maintain the infrastructure of the country. Call me naïve, but I thought that's what passing the stimulus bill in 2009 was supposed to accomplish. Remember all those shovel ready jobs? Neither do I. But what happened to the money that was spent for shovel ready jobs? We certainly won't be able to find it but do we know where it has gone?

Are we better off than we were four years ago? The question is a certain NO! Gas prices have doubled. Food and electricity is up 5% this year alone. Unemployment is still a full percentage point above what it was guaranteed not to go above. The annual budget deficit has tripled. Now the full faith and credit of the United States is being downgraded. There are a lot of things that the president may not have control over that cause tough times for Americans. But this is not one of them. President Obama will come out from time to time and make a speech on how he is going to be fiscally responsible. But when it comes time to cut spending, he panders to everyone's fear that the poor are going to starve, the sick are going to die, and the children are not going to become educated. This kind of rhetoric does not instill confidence for forging ahead for the 21st century. It's almost the antithesis of what the vision of America should be. And yet we're getting it from our president.

President Obama is going to claim credit for saving the American economy, auto industry, and environment. Somehow we're supposed to find comfort in paying high prices hoping that wind and the sun will produce enough electricity to power electric cars which we cannot afford. 47% of Americans do not pay income taxes. Yet the president wants the 53% who do pay to pay more. This is supposed to be social justice?

Someone once said that you'll never go broke underestimating the stupidity of the American people. Whenever I hear or President Obama in a town hall setting, I think of this quotation. I think President Obama still has a community organizer view of America. He views the average American is being stupid, directionless, and needing to be told what to do. He is an elitist who wants to grant special favors to a small group of people who will do him political favors. Do we really want four more years of this?
