ODD ENDS
I voted today. The entire voting environment has become so polluted and greed-filled that there is an emptiness in voting. There isn't much to choose today that is not influenced and tinged with greed capitalism, oligarchical purchase, war corporations, etc. Our democracy, such as it was, is slipping away fast. Money rules. Greed has purchased our culture, way of life, democratic process, etc.
It is interesting to listen to the right-wing comments about how terrible it is that President Obama is making such a big thing out of the capturing and killing of Osama bin Laden under Obama's watch. Please think for one moment. If that mission to get bin Laden had failed, what do you think the right-wing would be doing about it during this election year? The anti-intellectual tea party would be using that to tell us how incompetent Obama is. Look, our President took a big risk in supporting that mission in Pakistan to get bin Laden. The fact that it turned out as it did gives Obama the right to use it in his election campaigning. The right-wing and greed puppets would be using it against Obama if he failed.
From "worldwidewamm" [a publication of Women Against Military Madness], May, 2012:
"This year, in May, the G8 [Group of Eight industrialized nations] had planned to meet with NATO in Chicago. It would have been the first time that the G8 and NATO met together --a natural confluence of world finance and military power in light of NATO's recent Libya campaign. However, a decision was made suddenly to move the G8 meeting to Camp David in Maryland, near Washington, D.C. Perhaps the world powers thought that a combined meeting of the G8 and NATO would make the link between finance capital and military conquest too evident to the public. And, of course, they feared the massive protests that such a meeting would provoke as the only way the public can let its views be known is by protesting in the streets."
The general public seems to be uninformed about the connection between big money in the West and military conquest in the Middle East. While both the leadership in Libya [Khadahfi] and Syria [Assad] represented horrible dictatorships, the other aspect of attacking them is overlooked. It was a financial power grab as well as a political one. What is currently going on in Syria is obscured by NATO and the G8 telling us how horrible the Assad regime is. Of course it is, but it has been for many years. Why this uproar now? Why this financing of the rebels in Syria now?
First, the road to neutralizing or overthrowing Iran runs through Syria. Second, for many years it has been thought by the West that Syria might be a good place to run an oil pipeline, away from Iran and the Gulf adjacent to Iran. But Syria's friendship with Iran prevented that. Now NATO and the G8 want it and they want Iran's friend, Syria, out of the way. To wit...
