CAPITALISM: WILD GREED

Glaxo Smith has been fined three billion dollars for falsely advertising its products to customers for whom there is no help and actually could kill them.  Yes, this company had lavish parties and trips for physicians to convince them to sell their products [prescribe them] to children, though there was no licensure to sell them to younger patients.  In fact, some of the targeted audience could actually be severely harmed or even killed when using them.  This is but a tiny fraction of the abuses that are rising rapidly in the greed-filled universe of capitalism.

Free enterprise is wonderful.  Free enterprise helped build the fortunes and lifestyles of successful Western World nations and cultures.  That being stated, free enterprise has had to be penalized and held in check many times since the Industrial Revolution.  Child labor abuses, unfair labor practices, products harming or killing people, destruction of the environment, ad infinitum, have all been a mark of unbridled capitalism.

GLORIOUS PATRIOTISM

It's wonderful to be able to openly express one's patriotism.  Not enough citizens do so.  They should be ashamed.  Show the flag!  Wear a flag pin on your lapel!  Show the flag around your home!  Stand proudly when the flag is presented!  Sing along when the National Anthem is played!

Be proud of our national heritage!  Pay tribute to our Fallen Heroes!  Recognize the threat we have from foreign nations and peoples!  Be proud of your religion!  Teach your kids to be loyal patriots!  Support budget items for the military!  Don't waste government money on frivilous items!  Speak loudly in support of math, science, and business courses!  Keep a lid on budgetary items for marginal things like the arts!  Watch your neighbor's national loyalty!  No welfare slackers, work for a living!

TEA PARTY "Patriots"

Oh, how patriotic are those Tea Party Republicans.  How quick they are to join in the celebration of our military veterans ..............as long as they're Republicans, and the "right kind" of Republicans.

The sham of the Tea Party patriots was clearly unmasked in the heated Illinois fight for Congress between Congressman Joe Walsh and Democrat Tammy Duckworth.  A woman who is a Democrat running against a man who is a Tea Party Republican.  She is a proud candidate, he is a sexist double-talker.

RIGHT-WING PLATFORM:

It is difficult to narrow down a wide variety of people and their beliefs because platforms can be somewhat complex, and they do not represent all of the people being categorized.  This is further complicated by people being totally unaware of their own beliefs, or in denial about what motivates their strongly-held feelings.

Nevertheless, I shall try.  Please remember I am announcing in advance that this does not include all people who lean to the conservative side of the political ledger, but is perhaps more represenative of the new right, the tea-party types, the new fascism, the more extremist viewpoints that have taken over the Republican Party in the U.S.  But just as bigots have always done, they will deny these characterizations.  Deny away.

OBAMA IS NON-LIBERAL

Finally!  Finally a nationally syndicated columnist, Richard Cohen, got it right.  Finally I find someone who recognizes the truth about Obama and about liberals and about liberalism.  Whew!  What took so long?

In his column "The liberal Obama that never was,"  published nationally on July 12, 2012, Richard Cohen writes as follows:

COMPLAINTS FROM RIGHT-WINGERS...

Oh, poor Mitt Romney!  All those questions about his background.  All those personal questions.  Give poor Mitt a break and lay off of him.  Poor guy.  Let's all move to lying and criticizing and asking questions about Barack Obama instead.

When you ask if Mitt Romney has any assets that he is hiding in tax shelters or other things that give him a great leg-up on ordinary Americans, that is unfair!?!

WHO'S UNCOMFORTABLE WITH ROMNEY?

While we all suffer through the agonizing and anti-intellectual drama known as the presidential election cycle, I have to wonder who is more uncomfortable with Mitt Romney, Democrats or Republicans?

It is one thing to try and erase Romneycare from Mitt's background so Democrats don't use it in the election, but it is quite anorther to try and erase it from the minds of frantic and desperate tea-partiers and extreme right-wingers.  After all, the cornerstone of the Obama administration, health care reform, was forged to a great extent from what Governor Romney proposed and got sanctioned in Massachusetts.  And not only that, but Romneycare/Obamacare is extremely popular and successful in Massachusetts.  Wow, how [and why?] would any honest candidate try to distance himself or herself from success like that?  Awkward.

ANTI-INTELLECTUALISM RULES RIGHT-WING

Six right-wing members of Congress want Secretary of State Clinton's  assistant to be investigated for "connections to the Moslem Brotherhood."  The assistant in question is from a Moslem family.  However she is married to a Jew, has proven herself over and over to be a loyal American, and even had U.S. Senator John McCain come to her defense, as well as the Speaker of the House of Representatives [both Republicans].  But the right-wing in America is out-of-control.  It strongly frames its message and aims it at the most anti-intellectual individuals and groups in the U.S.

The aim of these anti-intellectual people is to confuse issues, lie, deceive for the benefit of the greediest and richest people, seek additional and ongoing benefits for the rich and greedy corporations, divide and conquer, and discredit scientific evidence when it is not supportive of their greed, cloak war greed in the dress of patriotism and loyalty, etc.  That was the same formula used in Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy in the 1930s and 1940s.  Let's call this political formulation for what it is: Fascism.

AURORA: A call to wake-up...again!

As the rest of the industrialized world once again watches America plunge deeper and deeper into the abyss of guns-guns-guns, some NRA puppets defend weaponry craziness with references to the Constitution and the Second Amendment.  I have read that Amendment hundreds of times and cannot find anything there that defends or justifies the insanity of gun proliferation in the United States.  A regulated militia, I can understand, and that refers to police, National Guard, and the national military forces.  But it does not refer to every kook in America having the right to own a gun.

It is easier to understand the greedy lobbying groups that get special favors and tax evading measures for corporations, the wealthy, and the military-industrial complex than it is to understand why we get goofy about the right of every household, every individual to have a gun or guns; and irrationally support  lobbying groups like the NRA to promote its irrational arguments.  Please, read the Second Amendment yourself.  Read it!

OUR MINDS RE GUNS ARE PRIMITIVE

If you want to pay attention to an honest, candid, and insightful politician, listen to what Mayor Bloomberg of New York City is saying.  What city mayor has had more experience with gun violence than Bloomberg?  He is straight-forward enough to speak about guns without bowing to the pressure of gun nuts and those organizations and companies that make their living by defending guns and the aftermath of the tragedies related to gun proliferation.  The promotion of guns in our society is a symptom of a sick society.  Sick.

Read the Second Amendment.  If you think the correct interpretation of that is to guaranty the right for every American to own a gun, then you like to think in terms of the 18th century.  What person in their right mind would make that interpretation?  Sure, guns were common in the 1700s; they were used to hunt for food necessities, protect one from wild animals, and live in areas where there was no stable, organized police force.  The social structure was different in the 1700s, and almost everything else as well.  Our Founding Fathers gave the vote to only adult white males.  Women could not vote.  Slavery was legal, and sanctified by some of the Founding Fathers themselves.  Should the NRA defend that as well as guns?  The time-frame is vastly different.  Any society that allows attack weapons as legal is a sick society.  Sick.

WHY NO ALERT ABOUT AURORA SHOOTER...

Why was there no one alerted to the insane and dangerous actions of the Aurora killer before he killed and wounded scores of people in a movie theater?  We read about the police, the FBI, the CIA, etc. catching would-be terrorists before they commit atrocities.  Why not this time?  Why not in Aurora, Colorado?

The major part of the answer is very simple.  He did not have a Moslem name!  That's it.  Yes, that is it.

HONESTY? Too much to ask?

I'm still waiting for President Obama to make good on his promise to close horrible Guantanamo.  I'm still waiting on some enlightened politician to promote what we greatly need: universal health care in the U.S.  I'm still waiting for some sanity from a politician about the control of all guns in the U.S.  While these would be civilized, sane, insightful, needed actions, they seem like a only a pipe dream in today's hostile, killing, greedy climate in the U.S.  It seems so very strange that civilized thought and action are not only absent in American thought and culture, but that they are considered radical.  How far will we go to commit national suicide in America?

Elections in the U.S. have become so brutal, lie-filled, deception-loaded, greedy, dishonest, etc. that I gag when I think what is now being said in this election cycle, with more horrors to come as November nears.

WHEW! Romney's finally home.

Comedy of errors?  Foreign affairs faux pas?  Diplomatic disaster?  Miscalculation?  Insult to Palestinian culture?  Insult to British intelligence?  Looking like a confused scarecrow?  Incompetent [with money]?

Mitt's back in the U.S.A.  Whew!  We understand here about crude and awkward wealthy people.  After all, we have Paris Hilton and Donald Trump.  But when he goes outside our borders he simply personifies the rich, misinformed, greedy, selfish, nincompoop.
