Slopping at the Trough
The federal government's bailout programs, which have since been really named recovery plans, have become the latest example of an overgrown governments way of giving the citizens of free lunch. It seems like everybody wants a bailout. The financial sector got theirs, the auto industry is getting theirs, and the biggest they allow program yet is still being put together by the new Congress to be implemented by the new administration. Endless free money for everyone. How could there possibly be a downside?
Milwaukee County executive Scott Walker has received criticism for not asking for bailout money. And on the surface this looks like a bad decision. This explains why the masses have embraced the snubbing of Scott Walker. There seems to be enough free money for everyone. Unless you don't take some, then you don't get your share because somebody else will grab it off the table. This is what it is coming to. Wisconsin Gov. Jim Doyle happily held his hand out looking for millions and millions perhaps billions of dollars to come our way to put Wisconsin workers back to work. The difference here is that Jim Doyle believes that the only programs we need our make work government programs that will build public transportation for people who will not use it or need it. Doyle did not settle for a little choo-choo train that would go from Kenosha to Milwaukee. Now, he now wants a train that will go from Minneapolis to Chicago stopping several times in Wisconsin. Yes, this would put some people to work. Yes, this would make use of millions and millions perhaps billions of dollars that just seems to have no particular home from the federal government. Forever, once the bailout money stops, the people of Wisconsin will be left holding the bill to maintain this huge overpriced infrastructure project. Gov. Doyle wants to stick it to his citizens.
Maybe Scott Walker understands something here. Asking for money in the short-term while creating long-term financial obligations is really not in the best interest of the citizens of Milwaukee County. A recent report showed the declining population of Milwaukee County. If taxes go up like the tax-and-spend liberals are suggesting, who will be left holding the bag? The answer is; the suckers in this county who will not be selling their houses because the prices have fallen so low because the demand will not return to live in this county.
The federal bailout programs are nothing more than huge bills of pork. Pork and only pork. This is the kind of thing that both presidential candidates promise to cut down on in the last election. In six weeks, everyone has done a 180 on this. And when it comes to pork, we have seen that the two senators from Wisconsin do not know how to bring pork back to the state. Russ Feingold prides himself with aligning himself with John McCain in cutting down on government waste. However 90+ other senators do not hold this philosophy. Herb Kohl does and has done virtually nothing in his 20+ years in Congress. He hasn't done anything to benefit Wisconsin anyway.
Trying to spend our way out of the current recession seems to be a dangerous precedent while building up enormous federal deficits. For 30 years, federal deficits have been deemed evil and ruining the future of our country. However in 2009, they are a saving grace. Someone's thinking here is wrong. Could it be... everybody?
