No hablo Espanol, pero....

Ole, El presidente Obama!

Another group that influenced the latest presidential election: Hispanics.  Get used to it.  And get over the terrible anti-immigrant psychosis that has gripped America.  How quickly we forget how past immigrants held onto their European languages and customs for not one, but several generations.  In fact, laws had to be passed in some areas so that second and third generation German-Americans and others would finally allow students to have textbooks printed in English.  Current immigrants are making a genuine effort to learn English in their first-generation arrival in the U.S.  Along with the bigotry suffered by African Americans who were brought here as slaves by Anglos, the Hispanic immigrants have had to suffer through untold bigotry on their own.

Each of our lives have been influenced in a positive way by Mexican immigrants, for example, who have worked hard and held jobs other Americans did not want to do.  And most Hispanic people coming into the U.S. have experienced at least attempts to have them work for slave wages.  Think of it, too often our greedy capitalists in the U.S. have either taken jobs to foreign countries where they can open sweat shops or pay paltry wages, or they have hired illegal and legal immigrants to work for them under horrid conditions and low pay.  Is there no shame in all this?

In a couple of decades, the United States of America will have a majority of its population that is African American and Hispanic.  Think of it!  And celebrate.  We may yet achieve the promise to make a reality out of past empty hopes for equality in America.  We are on the verge of something very special happening in the "good ole USA."  Magnifico.
