Thomas J. Burns

Thomas J. Burns of Fox Point died Jan. 28, 2009.

Burns was past president of Heinemann's Restaurants. He was a pilot and owner of an aviation business at Mitchell Field. He was past president of the Milwaukee Rotary Club, past chairman of the Young President's Organization, past board member of the Salvation Army, a regent at Milwaukee School of Engineering and a member of the Town Club. He was involved in many other civic activities in Milwaukee.

He was a prolific inventor. Among his inventions was a solar oven that took Burns and his wife, Betty, to many Third World countries to teach cooking in the sun.

He is survived by his wife, Betty; children, John (former wife, Peggy) Burns and Wendy (Johnathan) Crawford; grandchildren, Johnny, Meggy, Patrick and Mary Burns, Sukie and Kelly Crawford and Wendy Gottfried; siblings, Peggy, Lucy (Gordon) and Fran (Marge); siblings-in-law Nancy and Dave Glassner; and other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Cindy Burns.

A memorial service was held Feb. 7 at Lumen Christi Catholic Church in Mequon.

Memorials to the MSOE Scholarship Fund are suggested.

Schmidt & Bartelt Funeral and Cremation Services handled the arrangements.
