5-time Grammy Winner, Dionne Warwick Will Headline Gathering on the Green

Saturday, July 16, 2011

Gathering on the Green and Headline Sponsor KAPCO welcome Dionne Warwick as a special Gathering on the Green headliner on Saturday, July 16, 2011 at Mequon Rotary Park. The national headliner feature is a new addition to Gathering on the Green’s Best of the Performing Arts programming. Additional Saturday highlights include the Florentine Opera Company, the TAIKO Japanese Drummers, the Gathering on the Green Orchestra, the PNC Children’s Village and the Harris Bank fireworks show.

Warwick established herself as an international musical legend earning a reputation as a hit maker with her nearly 60 chart-topping hits, including, Do You Know the Way to San Jose, That’s What Friends Are For, and I’ll Never Fall in Love this Way Again. As a performer, she has achieved success in multiple music genres including: pop, gospel and R&B music. Her success has transcended race, culture, and musical boundaries.

Warwick began singing as a child in New Jersey and occasionally as a soloist for the renowned Drinkard Singers, a group comprised of her mother Lee along with her aunts and uncles. Singing is in her bloodlines; Whitney Houston is her cousin. During her teens, Dionne and sister Dee Dee started their own gospel group, The Gospelaires. While attending college, she sang behind many of the biggest stars of the 1960's including Dinah Washington and Solomon Burke.

Warwick’s pioneering efforts have led the music industry in the fight against AIDS raising millions of dollars for A IDS research. Warwick has devoted countless hours to a wide range of humanitarian causes, including her post as the Food and Agriculture Organization Ambassador of the United Nations. Warwick has spearheaded the long overdue development and production of a history book that will detail African and African-American history for use in schools, libraries, and bookstores throughout the world. She continues her work as a socially conscious and concerned global citizen.

Gathering on the Green’s headliner for Friday, July 15, 2011 is the Daryl Stuermer Band and the TAIKO Japanese Drummers. Single tickets are $40, $30 and $20.
