Buddhist Meditation Class offered at Unitarian Church

Jan. 9, 2012

Mequon – Bhante Sila, a Buddhist monk from Sri Lanka, will lead a class in Buddhist meditation at Unitarian Church North, 13800 N. Port Washington Road, on Friday evenings. The class, titled Meditation with Bhante Sila, begins January 13, 6-8 p.m., and is open to the public.
Bhante Sila was ordained at age 16 as a Sri Lankan Theravada Monk and has been in robes for 38 years. He has translated many books on mindfulness and meditation. His class is based on the teachings revealed by Gotama the Buddha 2600 years ago. In Buddhist meditation cultivating Dana (generosity) is the first step, leading to concentration and wisdom. Compassionate donations are appreciated. Please bring a cushion for sitting.
Unitarian Church North is an active, welcoming Unitarian Universalist congregation. In the quest for an authentic, personal theology, members consider the wisdom of the world’s great religious and ethical teachings as well as their own direct experience, conscience and thoughtfulness. The congregation includes people of many faith perspectives, including agnostics and humanists, who join together on their religious journeys and work to inspire spiritual and ethical growth; promote free religious expression; create a diverse and inclusive community; and work for justice in our world.
For more information on classes offered through the church’s Adult Spiritual Enrichment program, call Unitarian Church North at 262-375-3890 or visit the website: www.ucnorth.org.
