Kate Baldwin, Broadway Star, Comes Home to Shorewood for One Night

Tony Nominated Shorewood Alumna Kate Baldwin Returns To Shorewood High School!

The Shorewood High School Drama Department is excited to announce alumna Kate Baldwin, internationally renowned Broadway star, is returning to her roots – Shorewood High School for two events on March 22, 2012.

During the day Kate will share her experiences, provide advice,and answer questions from current students, faculty and staff. In the evening, she will be hosting a “Salon” for 100 fortunate fans. She will perform in the intimate studio theater and answer questions. This is also an opportunity to reconnect with her mentor Barbara Gensler, longtime Shorewood High School Drama Director.

Kate shared, "I really want to make this an intimate setting. Barb and I will be sharing the stage, and people can ask us both questions.” Adding, “I can’t thank Mrs. Gensler enough."

Shorewood native and SHS Class of '93 alumnus, Kate Baldwin is clearly becoming one of Broadway’s leading ladies. She has performed in Finian’s Rainbow to critical acclaim and a Tony nomination, as well as, productions such as Wonderful Town, The Full Monty, and Thoroughly Modern Millie. In November 2010, she took part in a concert tribute to Stephen Sondheim with the New York Pops at Carnegie Hall. In October 2009, Baldwin released her first solo album; Let's See What Happens.

The premiere of the new musical Paradise Found featured Baldwin in a production co-directed by Harold Prince and Susan Stroman at the Menier Chocolate Factory in London (May 19-June 26, 2010). The Telegraph wrote of her performance: "The best performance comes from Kate Baldwin, who is both affecting and a succulent feast for the eye, as Mizzi.” Currently, she is preparing for her next project as Marion in Music Man at the Arena Stage in Washington, D.C.

While there is no fee for the event, donations are always welcome. The Salon and Discussion has a maximum of four seats per party, in order to accommodate as many people as possible to the event.
