Best French-Language Film Shorts of 2009 to Premiere March 27 at the North Shore Cinema

Feb. 18, 2010

Marcus Theatres® and the Alliance Francaise of Milwaukee are pleased to present “Les Lutins du Court-Métrage,” the best French-language film shorts of 2009, at the North Shore Cinema in Mequon, Wis. on Saturday, March 27, 2010 at 1:30 p.m.

Les Lutins du Court-Métrage features 25 best short French films of the year. This year’s selections include a stylish film noir miniature, cinéma-vérité vignettes about fathers and sons, an unusual story about a meteorite, and a short film about someone with extraordinary ears, featuring top model Audrey Marnay.

“Les Lutins has been named the cream-of-the-crop of French short films,” said Anne Herisson-Leplae, executive director of Alliance Francaise of Milwaukee. “More than 2,000 cinema professionals vote for their top films, in a format inspired by the Césars, to determine the 25 best short films of the year. Many of the young directors, actors and actresses revealed in these short films will be the award-winners of tomorrow’s movies.”

“Marcus Theatres is pleased to team with the Alliance Francaise of Milwaukee to bring culturally-stimulating films to our area,” said Bruce J. Olson, president of Marcus Theatres. “Many of these films are not generally available to commercial theatres and our affiliation with Alliance Francaise makes it possible for Marcus Theatres to offer this unique experience to Milwaukee-area moviegoers.”

Herisson-Leplae said the affiliation helps her organization share and promote the language and friendship of the French-speaking world. “Audiences will have the opportunity to see French short films on the big screen, while discovering the new cinema talents of tomorrow. These films promote the unknown and show the unseen – letting their audiences experience a new possibility of going to the movies.”

Admission is $6 for Alliance Francaise members and students with an ID and $10 for non-members. Tickets may be purchased by contacting the Alliance Francaise of Milwaukee at 414-964-3855, bonjour@afmilwaukee.org, or by visiting www.afmilwaukee.org.

Sponsors of Les Lutins du Court-Métrage include Marcus Theatres, Délégation de l’Alliance Francaise USA and the Lutins du Court Métrage Association.
